The Volatile Control System: An Introduction

We hoped to reach the limit of what can be done. This is what we built.

We had an objective. This very objective dictated every formulation decision, every product, every test.

We wanted to take topical science as far as it would go. Build all the way to the edge of what is possible and stop there. So that if someone uses this system and a smell still persists, they have a clear answer: the biochemical pathway that created that smell cannot be addressed by anything applied to the skin. Not by us, not by anyone else. The ceiling has been reached. What remains is a conversation with a doctor to manage the condition. This ambitious objective led to the invention of the Volatile Control System.

Most people dealing with persistent odour spend years moving from product to product, wondering whether the next one will finally work or continue working after a year, never quite knowing whether they have genuinely exhausted the topical options or whether there is still something they have not tried. The Volatile Control System takes that guesswork off the table.

If the Volatile Control System cannot stop a smell, no other topical product will. That is the ceiling. Everything beyond it belongs to medicine.

Why is it called the Volatile Control System?

The name of the system describes what the system does.

Every smell, regardless of where it comes from, only exists because a molecule left the skin and travelled into the air around you. While it stays on the skin, you cannot smell it. It has no odour. It is only when it becomes airborne that it becomes a problem.

These molecules are called volatiles. They are light and easily float away from your skin. This is how all body odour works.

We comprehend this mechanism well and invented a way to contain these molecules on the skin and cancel the smell. And so, the Volatile Control System was born.

You already use a system. Ours was made on purpose.

Before we get into the products, think about your current routine for a second.

You probably use a body wash or a soap. Maybe you grab a scrub or an exfoliator a few times a week. There’s a moisturizer or body lotion. And a deodorant. That’s four products, likely from different brands, bought at different times, for different reasons. Most people don’t really think about whether these products work together, leave gaps, or if the order you use them in even matters.

That’s already a system. The only thing missing is that nobody designed it to actually work together.

We are not asking you to add more steps to your life or start something totally foreign. We are just presenting an option to swap an accidental routine for a deliberate one. The number of steps stays the same. The real difference is whether each step is doing something important, or just filling space on your bathroom shelf.

The Volatile Control System is built so that each product gets your skin ready for the next, fills gaps the others can’t reach, and together they cover all the causes of body odour that can be stopped topically. You don’t have to use everything in the lineup. If only one of these steps matches what you need, that might be enough. Check out the descriptions below and let your own experience decide what’s right for you.

The goal was never to sell you a five-step routine. The goal was to understand the problem well enough to offer a real solution that actually fits your needs.

Why most deodorants work for some people and not others?

Every deodorant brand starts with the same explanation – “Sweat is odourless. Bacteria live on the skin, feed on sweat, and produce odour as a byproduct. Buy this product. It kills the bacteria. Problem solved.”

That explanation is partially true. Bacteria do contribute to body odour. But it is not the whole story, and the industry knows it. Because they also say this: body chemistry is different for everyone, which is why not every deodorant works for every person.

Sit with that for a moment.

If bacteria were the only cause of body odour, any antibacterial product would work for any person. Equally. Every time. Body chemistry would be irrelevant. The fact that it is not irrelevant, the fact that two people can use the same product and have completely different experiences, means something else is happening that bacteria alone cannot explain.

That something else is biochemistry. And it is not simple.

The skin produces odour through multiple independent processes, most of which have nothing to do with bacteria at all. The oxidation of lipids inside the skin's own membrane produces the waxy, ageing smell through a purely chemical process that no antibacterial product can touch. The body's own metabolic activity produces the fishy smell through an enzymatic pathway that originates inside the body, not on its surface. The apocrine glands secrete steroidal compounds that oxidise on the skin surface through a process driven entirely by skin chemistry. These are not bacterial processes. They are biochemical ones, and they have been happening on human skin since the beginning of time without a single topical product ever being designed to address them.

The industry has known this. They call it body chemistry. They use it to explain away the people their products do not work for, and then they move on.

Nobody has attempted to address these pathways topically. Until now.

The Volatile Control System was built around a complete map of every biochemical process that produces body odour, bacterial and non-bacterial alike. Every product in the system was formulated with specific mechanisms aimed at specific pathways. Nothing was left to chance and nothing was left out because it was too difficult to address.

What follows is an introduction to each product, what it addresses, and why it exists in the system. Read the ones that sound familiar. Your own experience will tell you where to start.

What each product in the Volatile Control System does?

Enzymatic Acid Wash (250ml)

This is where the system begins every morning. It does something no standard body wash can do: it dissolves and lifts the waxy molecules responsible for the ageing stale smell that ordinary surfactants physically cannot remove because that molecule does not dissolve in water. At the same time, it establishes an acidic environment across the skin surface that slows the bacterial enzymes responsible for the sour cheesy smell, the ammonia sharpness, the buttery fermented note, and the fishy smell. It dismantles the protective structures bacteria build around themselves to survive surface applications, and it cuts the fuel supply to the bacterial colony living inside the hair follicle. Use every day instead of your soap or body wash as the first step in the routine to make every product applied on your skin work well.

BVI Lamellar Barrier Primer(500ml)

Every significant advance in skincare science over the past two decades was built for the face. The body received moisturisers. The Metabolic Primer was built on a different principle. It is a leave-on active system formulated using the same delivery architecture as the skin's own lipid layer, applied across the chest, back, torso, and the full body surface where odour-producing glands are distributed.

A deodorant covers one site. This covers everything.

It works on every major odour pathway simultaneously, including the waxy ageing smell and the deep musky animal smell through processes that begin inside the skin's lipid membrane, long before a smell molecule ever reaches the surface. For anyone who notices odour coming from areas beyond the underarm, this is the product that addresses the full picture.

Bio-Volatile Inhibitor Stick (50g)

If your primary odour experience is in the underarm, this is where to start. The stick addresses nine biochemical odour pathways simultaneously: the sour cheesy smell, the sharp sulphurous onion-like smell, the fishy smell, the ammonia sharpness, the warm buttery fermented smell, the waxy ageing smell, the deep musky animal smell, the follicular odour that lives inside the hair follicle itself, and the bacterial biofilm that protects odour-producing colonies from anything applied to the skin. It carries three independent mechanisms against the sulphurous smell alone, more than most deodorants deploy against all odours combined. It also forms a breathable film on the skin surface that physically slows the rate at which volatile molecules can lift off the skin and become airborne. Use it anywhere a stick can be applied comfortably.

Bio-Volatile Inhibitor Concentrate (50ml)

The Concentrate addresses the same eight core biochemical odour pathways as the stick through mechanisms calibrated for whole body application. It was formulated specifically for the areas of the body that need effective coverage without aggression: underarms, under the breasts, the groin, the gluteal cleft, feet and other zones where skin is thinner and in frequent contact with itself. The Stick and the Concentrate are designed to work together. For anyone dealing with complex or persistent odour across multiple sites, using both in combination with the Metabolic Primer covers every biochemical pathway the system addresses.

Bio-Reset Enzymatic Acid Mask-Wash (100ml)

Over time, even with daily washing, the hair follicle accumulates dead skin cells, skin oils, and residue from the products you use. That accumulated layer sits between your skin and everything you apply to it, and everything you apply afterwards sits on top of it rather than reaching the skin beneath.

The Peel dissolves that layer, opens the follicle channel, and clears the bacterial colony inside it so the other products in the system can actually reach where they need to go. When used two to three times a week, it visibly improves the appearance of the underarm and bikini area, addressing the darkening and uneven tone that develops from friction, heat, and years of conventional product use. Without it, every other product in the system or any skincare product gradually becomes less effective as residue accumulates. With it, the surface stays clear and everything performs at the level it was designed to reach.

For those dealing with persistent or complex odours that have not responded to conventional products, the most effective approach is to use the full system. The Bio-Reset Enzymatic Acid Wash prepares the skin every day, clearing the surface and opening the follicles so everything applied afterwards can reach where it needs to go. The Metabolic Primer extends active coverage across the whole body throughout the day, addressing pathways that the targeted inhibitors cannot reach on their own. Both inhibitor products work directly at the sites of highest activity, together covering every biochemical odour pathway the system addresses. The Exfoliating Peel Mask, used two to three times a week, keeps the follicles clear and the skin surface receptive so the rest of the system continues to perform over time.

What is coming next Friday?

The full technical account of the Volatile Control System will be published next Friday. Eleven sections, one for each biochemical odour pathway the system addresses, written in plain language.

Each section will open with a description of what that specific smell character is like, so you can identify whether it applies to you before reading further.

You do not need to read all eleven. Read the ones whose descriptions sound familiar. By the end of each section, you will know which product or products in the system address that pathway and why, so you can make a genuinely informed decision about what your routine needs to include.

Understanding the problem properly is what makes the solution personal rather than prescribed. That is the whole point of publishing it this way.

For those of you who have been dealing with this for a long time

Some of you reading this have tried product after product over the years and arrived at a place where the problem feels permanent. We want to speak to you directly, because this matters.

In most cases, a persistent odour problem that has not responded to conventional products is due to targeting issues. The right mechanisms have simply not yet been targeted at the right biochemical pathways. Next week’s article will help you identify exactly which pathways are dominant for you, and therefore which parts of the system are actually worth your attention.

For a smaller group of people, the source of the odour is metabolic or medical. It originates inside the body in a way that sits beyond the reach of anything applied to the skin. Where that is the case, we say so clearly in the relevant sections. The system will manage what can be managed topically and point plainly toward what needs a different kind of attention. That clarity is more useful than a product that overpromises and leaves you without direction.

Leave a comment below with your questions, with the smell types that are most familiar to you, or with anything about your experience you want us to consider when we write the full piece. We will read everything before it goes up.

PS: The Volatile Control System launches this summer 2026.

Will all the products in the line up be clean and non toxic? I refuse to put anything on my skin that contains toxic chemicals.

Lisa

I’m hoping that the full write up will include:

-listing of the active ingredients in each of the products
-routine, i.e., order to use the products in, time of day (if that matters), etc.

Questions:
-If any products contain silver, is the molecule size large enough that it won’t absorb into the skin (so skin doesn’t turn blue)?
-How well will the deodorants (stick and concentrate) stick to the skin? I use Lume now which is like a lotion, and it comes off easily when I wear any shirt besides sleeveless or when I go swimming, and then I have no protection. Hoping your deodorants have better staying power.

I’m excited to try the new system!

I have HS (hidradenitis suppurativa), which is caused by blocked hair follicles. Will this system possibly help to alleviate the blockage? If so, your system will be a lifesaver for those of us that suffer from HS.

Marie

This seems very promising and I am excited to learn more and eventually try the complete system. I’ve often felt the problem for me starts with body wash/ soap. No matter what I’ve tried, PanOxyl for example, there is still a smell. So, I am pleased to see that you are creating multiple steps, including a wash.
Signed,
Hopelessly Optimistic :)

Does this deodorant still work for multiple days? The main thing I liked about the paste is not having to apply it daily- and this article mentions washing every day.
